Carmen Maria Mitchell is a Latina performing artist who's pronouns are she/her/hers.
Carmen grew up as a competitive figure skater and ballet dancer. She now works as a professional singer and actor in both New York and California. Her body of artistic work includes many leading roles in musicals, short films, commercials and professional ice skating shows.
Carmen recently appeared as a principal performer on a National Tour of Disney on Ice, where she debuted the role of the “Live Host” and was also hired to do voice over work for Feld Entertainment.
Some of her favorite roles include: Louise in Gypsy, Christine Daae in Phantom of the Opera, Maria in West Side Story, Fantine in Les Misérables, Lady of the Lake in Spamalot, Juliet in Romeo & Juliet, Viola in Illyria, Aida in the musical Aida, and Brooke Windham in Legally Blonde The Musical.
During her competitive ice skating career, Carmen became a US Figure Skating double gold medalist and was the Artistic National similar pairs champion. She also won several artistic awards including "Most Artistic Freeskate" at Showcase competitions in the Bay Area. Carmen danced as a soloist with the San Francisco Academy of Ballet and Santa Rosa Dance Theater.
Carmen attended a performing arts high school, then went on to study Performing Arts and Social Justice at the University of San Francisco and Santa Rosa Junior College. Carmen has also attended many workshops, masterclasses, and acting intensive programs at the City Academy in London, American Conservatory Theater (ACT) Studio, Berkeley Repertory Theater and Shakespeare and Company.
Carmen is now the founder of the non-profit Redwood Theatre Company & Redwood Ice Theatre, bringing professional productions to the wine country of Sonoma County, CA. Carmen is also the co-founder of the media productions company FTA Productions (For The Art). FTA Productions works alongside bold brands and artists to create cutting-edge media content.
Carmen has a passion for social justice work. Her companies include full-inclusion opportunities for artists with developmental disabilities and outreach art programs for underserved youth, especially in the Latinx communities. She is also the co-director of the SOL Art Program: providing art, healing and violence prevention to marginalized youth. She is the director of the FTA Social Justice Art Series: creating social awareness and community connections through art.
In addition to her professional performance career, companies and outreach programs, Carmen is also currently producing several film projects including: "The Patrol Lowrider" Documentary, "The SOL Club" Documentary, the Broadway on Skates series and the "Performing on the Edge" Podcast.
